Hormuz talks positive, Oman says, as Iran warns deal would not open strait

Oman reported that they have had good discussions with Iran about making a plan to keep a shipping path safe through the Strait of Hormuz. However, Tehran said that any deal would not mean the waterway would open right away. Both countries said on Saturday that they were making progress in their talks, but they didn't know when a deal would be finished. Oman's foreign ministry warned about attacks on ships that could slow down the process. Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, said that the talks were almost done, but opening the strait would depend on other things. Iran has been blocking the waterway, which is important because it lets about one-fifth of the world's oil and natural gas flow, since February when the US and Israel started attacking it. The recent talks were about finding a new way through the strait for Iran and Oman to manage. This was supposed to help ships start moving again. But Araghchi said that the strait would only open completely if other things were taken care of, and he gave a quick look at these conditions.
