For three decades, a body known as "Green Boots" has been resting in the snow, hidden beneath an overhanging rock near the top of Mount Everest. The mountaineering boots, once worn by an Indian climber who passed away in 1996, have served as a somber signpost for many climbers ascending the tallest mountain in the world. Now, India is seeking a team of experts in high-altitude recovery to carry out a difficult and dangerous task: to bring back the body of Dorje Morup, who is believed to be the most renowned of the many who have perished on the mountain and been left behind. They hope to finally return his remains to friends and family who have held onto hope that he would return. "On some nights, as I prepared for bed, I would imagine there would be a knock on the door, and when I opened it, he would be standing there," Morup's wife shared with the BBC. "When he returns home, I will ask him, 'Where have you been all these years? '"
